Traditional sheep breeds ‘go into heat’ in the fall triggered by the change in seasons and the temperature change to cooler nights. It’s wierd science.

Episode 4: There and Back

On the road…

This week Amy is back from Disney and Heather has made it to Montana unscathed.

Stash Enhanced…

Heather stopped at 2 yarn shops in Fargo: Boucle’ Yarns where she bought Sublime Lace in a Cerulean Blue and Prairie Yarns where she discovered The Waves Beach Bag which reminded her of the Mixed Wave Cowl

Heather is blogging again! Find it here: http://gerschubie.com/

She also went to Sticks Yarn Shop in Bozeman which carries Western Sky Knits yarn and Creations in Ennis.

Amy shop-hopped her way across Central Florida with stops at Needlecraft World for some Casablance yarn. 4 Purls in Winter Haven for Malabrigo Nube, Liberty Wool, Shibui SOcks and more camo-colored yarn for Scooterpie in a Crazy Zauberball this time. Since there was FREE SHIPPING over $75, Amy also picked up some Noro Sock, KPI Luxury Mohair and Sweet Georgia Panda for spinning. She stopped at The Black Sheep in Orlando on the way to the ariport for some Coastal Colors yarn.

Amy will be spinning the goodies she’s accumulating for Team Knitgirllls during Spinzilla.

And they ATE….

Heather had the best Irish food ever at THe Blarney Stone in Bismarck, enjoyed local foods at Open Range in Bozeman and is looking forward to many fun evenings at Stacey’s Bar & Grill.

Amy enjoyed all of server Bill’s suggestions at the Yachtsman at Disney’s Yacht Club resort and didn’t have the usual awesomeness at Johnnie’s Hideaway (but will got back! It’s always good.)

And they knitted….

Amy is working away on Laura Nelkin’s Juego, the S.P,A.R.S.F. Socks and is ready to cast on for the final 2014 M-Club project Magmatic, which uses a “magic cake” similar to the Knitting PIpeline “Magic Cake Ruffle Shawl” only using Space Cadet gradient minis with 3 other minis from Propanicus Moon, Jill Draper Makes Stuff and Lakshmis Designs.

Heather continues to work the applied edging on the Grand Army Plaza Shawl (now on a self-imposed ‘knitting schedule’, and a Chevron Cowl. She’s spinning her way through a Painted Fleece braid Amy gave her as well.

Running Loose…

Heather started looking at property for the eventual move to MT. She mentioned the Ghost Town, Virginia City (which sort of isn’t anymore), Yellowstone adventures (where she was NOT eaten by a Mountain Lion), the Grant Coors Ranch and Lewis & Clark Caverns.

Coming down the pike…

Amy is obviously insane, because she’s cast on the Acorn Trail from Amy Herzog using the CustomFit software AND the Pergola Cardigan as is on the road to Michigan Fiber Fest where she’s looking forward to seeing Sue of Twin Birch Products.

She’s also won Grand Champion Hand Spinning Fleece at the County Fair with her Lavender Jacob fleece. Learn more about Jacob Sheep at the Livestock Breeds Conservancy or about how to pick a Lavender Fleece from the Yarn Harlot.

The Miniature Mediterranean Donkey jack, Coca Cola WON GRAND CHAMPION!!! We are super proud of the little guy and grateful to Amy’s son for showing him and his girlfriend and her family for doing all his grooming to make it possible! He was shining like a diamond that day!

Episode 3: On the Road Again….

And we’re off!!

This week, we go ‘On the Road Again’ as we both try to pull off a last trip before our Fall show season begins. Heather is off to Montana (and the general Western vicinity) for a month and Amy is off to Disney for the Family Reunion.

Heather is looking forward to a trip to Yellowstone and perhaps even Glacier National Park.  She’s looking forward to yarn shopping in Ennis, Bozeman, W.  Yellowstone and Big Sky while she’s away. She’s packing a Loop Batt, a braid of Merino I gave her from The Painted Fleece, some Fiber Optic in assorted forms and a Miss Babs Merino/SIlk.

She’s still working on the Mira’s Cowl from the last episode and trying to decide what to cast on next.

On Amy’s needles are the S.P.A.R.S.F. socks , and Juego Shawl.

Amy mentions the Pittsburgh Knit & Crochet Festival where she first met Stephanie the Space Cadet, who talked her into her first Laura Nelkin kit for Juego (in Space Cadet yarns, naturally) and some awesome de-stash she got from Aimee from the Knitting in Circles podcast, and her new purchase from Undead Yarns with her SSK coupon code.

Then there was some other stuff about Star Wars (which we’ve never seen), listening to your Mama, and Scooterpie’s obsession with the Big Green Egg.
